How do Private Lessons Work?
Private lessons are almost always the best way to achieve the goals that brought you to a dog trainer in the first place. This is what I most often recommend. We’ll start with a phone call, followed by a free in-person evaluation where we can all get to know each other and, together, make a winning plan for you and your dog going forward.
The most important part of that plan is owner education. I have a curriculum that I want ALL of my clients to understand. My goal isn’t just to teach your dog or fix a problem for you. It’s to teach you how to do it. If you want to teach your dog something, you’ll know how. If a problem comes up, you’ll know how to address it. I’ll always be here to help, but my goal is to give you the education and understanding so that you don’t need to rely on me.
From the beginning, we’ll also build a very clear, goal-oriented plan based on exactly where you want to end up. We’ll think ahead about what could get in the way, what problems we might run into, and how we’ll handle them if they happen. Sometimes I’ll be right there while an owner works through their biggest issues, and sometimes they’ll handle them successfully on their own because we prepared them properly. Time and time again, the result is the same. The problems are gone, the owner understands their dog, and both of them are happier.
I become extremely personally invested in my clients being successful, so we’ll do whatever is needed to get you there. This includes unlimited support between sessions, to the best of my abilities, as my clients can attest to. It’s my mission to create the best life possible for you and your dog, and that is our only goal in these private lessons. I’ll never just tell you what to do. I’ll always explain why I believe it’s the best course of action. Our training will stay highly focused on the end result you came for while having a ton of fun in the process!

How Does Board and Train Work?
My Board and Train programs are highly personalized and something I only recommend when I truly believe it is the best way to help you and your dog. Before we decide to do this type of program, we will talk in depth about your dog, your goals, the problems you’re having, and exactly what we want life to look like when the program is finished. Every dog and every family is different, so there is no one size fits all Board and Train program.
Your dog will stay in my home with me and be treated like one of my own dogs. I only take one, or at most two, Board and Train dogs at a time because I want your dog to have my full attention and actually become part of my life while they’re here. The training isn’t just something that happens for an hour or two each day. We’ll train, play, go places, experience real life together, and work toward giving you and your dog the life you’re dreaming of.
Just like with my private lessons, owner education is still the most important part of the program. I can put an incredible amount of work into your dog, but ultimately I need to set you up to pick up exactly where I left off. The good news is that what you need to learn is usually very simple. Basically your most important work will be to have fun with your dog! Your education will start before your dog stays with me, continue throughout the program, and continue after your dog comes home. I want you to understand what I’m doing, why I’m doing it, and how to carry it into your everyday life.
I’m also very selective about the clients I take for board and train. Not the dog but the client. I want to work with very committed dog owners who genuinely want to have fun with their dog and build the best life they can together. If private lessons are the easier or better way to get you there, that’s what I’ll recommend. If a Board and Train is truly what your situation calls for, then we’ll make a plan together to get you where you need to be. Whatever plan we choose, if I have your commitment then you have mine 100%!

Day Training
Day Training is a hybrid program that I’ve found to be one of the most effective options for the vast majority of dogs. You’ll drop your dog off with me for a couple hours 3-4 days a week, giving me the chance to really get to know them, understand what’s going on, start teaching the basics, and work through things at my own pace. I can also expose them to new experiences in the ideal way. This makes our private lessons afterwards far easier and more productive because I already know your dog extremely well and can show you exactly what they need from you.
The most important part is still our private lessons and your education. Throughout the program, I’ll give you simple things to work on at home so you can keep everything moving forward between sessions. Day Training is a great option when your dog would benefit from more hands-on work with me, but a Board and Train isn’t necessary or doesn’t make sense because of scheduling, finances, or other circumstances. You get the benefit of me working extensively with your dog while still learning how to create the same results yourself.
